Bike Photo Friday!

December 30, 2011 in Bike Photo Friday!

Early this year I rarely saw a bike locked up in front of a shopping center.  Now that we are at the end of 2011 I’m seeing them more frequently in a not so bike friendly area.  Maybe 2012 will deliver a few more bike racks.  I won’t hold my breath for a bike lane, but additions to the park would be nice.

Bike Photo Friday!: SBUX Bikes

December 26, 2011 in Bike Photo Friday!

Mom and I took our last trip to Starbucks for the year.  Mmm.  Mmm.  Good.  It’s time I put my addiction on ice and implement – once again, my rule that I can only have SBUX if I bike there.

Limey bike parked outside. It's clear that the guy has never had a bike stolen before.

His friend preferred gears, bling, and to lock up to more than his rear tire.

Bike Photo Friday: Warehouse Trikes

December 16, 2011 in Bike Photo Friday!

These bikes are in a huge distribution warehouse in Texas.  Last week I saw a woman in our neighborhood riding uphill toting her groceries in one of these.  She was older.   The weather was cold and drizzly. It was an uphill battle for many reasons.  The closer she got to the top, the more she had to walk.  What also wasn’t helping her progress was the width of her the bike was wider than the width of the sidewalk.  The road was busy, so I completely understand her decision to stay off of the road.  I was frustrated for her.

Last week I had a conversation with a contractor about bike riding.  He does not think that bikes should be in the road because cyclists can make stupid decisions.  Drivers make dumb decisions too, so that argument is weak.  For someone who doesn’t like riding a bike, it’s easy to just say, all bikes off of the road!  But where are we going to ride when the sidewalks are too narrow?  Plus, riding on the sidewalk can be just as dangerous on busy roads if there are a lot of driveways to cross.  Cars aren’t looking for bikes on sidewalks. Often times, bike riders aren’t watching out for cars either.  It’s negative, I know, but I don’t see a solution coming to my area in North Texas.  So this debate is kind of old, really.  Cars win over bikes, especially when there are few cyclists who want to ride around the neighborhood.

Bike Photo Friday: You are my sunshine

July 22, 2011 in Bike Photo Friday!

When I can’t make up my mind, I just hop on the cross bike and pedal.  This weekend pavement lead to the dirt, and I did not slow down.

I’d planned on writing about the heat, the granola I’m baking, and a happy day at work.  Those thoughts will have to wait as the WordPress theme I’ve been using no longer functions since the last update.  Boo.

Bike Photo Friday!: Let’s Go Rangers

Police bike at the ticket window, Texas Ranger Stadium

Date night at the stadium.  Rangers played a great ball game last week.  We had such a good time that we’re booked for 5 more games the rest of the season thanks to $10 Fireworks Fridays. Let’s go Rangers!

Texas Ranger Stadium

I haven't yet learned to tilt the head down when taking my own picture. Dave remembers everything.

Bike Photo Friday! Fellow Shopper

It’s rare to see a fellow shopper on bike in Coppell.

This bike was locked up at Sprouts grocery store in Coppell, Texas.

Bike Photo Friday in the OC

November 18, 2010 in Bike Photo Friday!

Oak Cliff is very bike friendly. It boasts a healthy number of cyclists, bike racks, and establishments that give discounts to guests who pedal.

The Bishop Arts District is a great little spot in the Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff.    Dave and I  live too far to ride, so we drove down to this artsy area for Wednesday date night.  First order of business was dinner at Eno’s Pizza.

Probably the most photographed bike in Dallas sits out front.

Chalkboard sign in front of the pizza place.

The restaurant is cozy, decorated for Fall, and stocked with a good selection of bottled and draft beers, and wines by the bottle and glass.

Bike Photo Friday!: Just say GO!

October 7, 2010 in Bike Photo Friday!

This week’s Bike Photo Friday! photo features people and bikes. Well little people getting ready to ride bikes. This photo at first made me laugh. The cyclist on the left is after all wearing a time trial helmet. Okay,  I admit I showed it to a few other people and laughed some more. But after the chuckles I got to thinking about this little girl who showed up to not just compete, but kick ass. She wanted to knock the socks off of her competition.   She may look ridiculous beside the Wal-mart bikes at the starting line, but she’s waiting for the woman in bluet to say GO!  So big props to the little girl who brought the big guns to the race.  I wish I could tackle every task with that much confidence.

And while I hope she leaves her helmet and kit home when she rides to school each day, her aspiration is inspirational.

Have a great Friday and an even better weekend everyone. Try to do something out of your comfort zone, but please leave the time trial helmet at home (only kids can get away with this).

I didn’t take this photo, it was emailed to me.  If you do know who captured this picture, please email me.  I’d love to give them credit.

Bike Photo Friday! Bike Lovin’ Sock Monkey

September 17, 2010 in Bike Photo Friday!

Gratuitous sock monkey

There is biking out there to be done.  Tomorrow I’ll be getting me some.

Yes, I’ll be winded.  It’s been two, TWO weeks since I’ve pedaled my mountain bike.  But there was that torrential down pour we had courtesy of Hermine.  There was also this little thing called a new job that I had to start.  Upside to the gig, it’s fabuloso.  Temporary downside, less biking.

My middle is receiving some extra padding while I adapt, but that will get the boot soon….I hope…before the holidays… If I don’t make it happen I’ll find myself pedaling more bikes outfitted with seats like this:

Bike Photo Friday! On the Road

September 10, 2010 in Bike Photo Friday!

Yesterday I finished my last day as a freelancer.  For seven years I’ve had a great run.  Now it’s time for the 9 to 5 benefits of vacation, paid government holidays off, and my favorite, insurance.   I’m visiting the parents for the weekend to celebrate.

Hermine soaked the state of Texas this week.  My bike is at home ending the week just as it began, without a trail ride.

Since I can’t ride I pulled out a pic from the dry hot summer.  This one is from a summer trip to Cameron Park.  Cameron Park is a fabulous trail in Waco, TX.  It’ll wear you out, but you’ll smile during the process.

Happy bikes
